Men's Spa Day in London

One of the items on my son Ryan's "must-do" list, when he came to London was to go to Trumpers for a straight razor shave. There are two shops in town, and we first saw this one on Jermyn Street as I've described a few days ago.

Ryan and Jason booked appointments at the original store in Mayfair, which has been in existence since 1875.

At both shops, you'll find all the accouterments that a man would need or desire for his personal grooming.

I love the idea of it being a gentleman's perfumer, as well as barber. Frankly, it's a spa for men, with options of shaves, manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, and of course, hair cuts.

The Mayfair shop has individual mahogany cubicles for each client. Ryan and Jason refrained from shaving for a couple of days prior to the experience to get their money's worth.

When they arrived, they convinced Mike to get a shave too, even though he had shaved that morning. I don't get it, but I'm sure it's all about the experience, that he paid "out the nose" for such a treat. Mike is seen here getting ready for the hot towel stage. I would think that one would pray for someone very experienced at that vulnerable stage, and Mike was fortunate to be shaved by a gentleman who had been in this business for 43 years.

All of the shaves include hot towels and a facial massage, with a specially made open razor, new for each client.

I think the consensus at the end of the night was a thumbs-up, and the gratification that no shaving would be necessary the next day, or maybe two.
For more of the story, click on Ryan's blog for his account of the experience.
