Chelsea Physic Garden

Enter through the verdant doorway to find a hidden treasure.

Just around the corner from our Chelsea home, secluded behind brick walls, is a secret garden. The Chelsea Physic Garden is the second oldest botanical garden in Britain. "Physic" in this case refers to the science of healing.
Founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, it continues to research the properties, origins and conservation of over 5000 species.
Since the 1600's, the apothecaries have used the garden to train their knowledge of medicinal plants.
Today, you can leisurely browse the gardens and find exotic trees, beds full of herbs, fruits, vegetables and flowers of all kinds.

Then when you need a little rest from your stroll, head to the Tangerine Dream Cafe there in the garden, where you'll find one of my favorite places for scones.
Lavender flavored scones served with clotted cream alongside a pot of tea or freshly squeezed lemonade.
Pull up a chair and enjoy the view.
