Strolling down the length of King's Road recently, past what is known as World's End, I stumbled upon a group of antique shops. I was drawn into Pimpernel and Partners where I found an assortment of French replica furniture and home accessories. It had the shabby chic feel with its vintage collection. Finding a shop that has a French flair here in London is always an unexpected surprise, so I enjoyed my shopping excursion there. My purchase of the day was not French, however, but a little sign with a universal reminder.
That night, when hubby came home, he found this little sign hung on his computer. Am I the only wife of a Blackberry addict who has ever felt this way? Especially when in London, and he's working all day here, and then "on call" during the evening hours while the US is still working. I understand dear, that you have to be available, I understand that someone might really need to contact you while we are at dinner, I understand that you can not read a text and listen at the same time, I understand that perhaps your company can not run on its own by itself--I understand, I really, really do!
Who am I kidding--it's no fun playing second fiddle to a phone!!!! Anybody with me on this one?
hello debie...a little hello from ines...oh, i can understand this...right...a really lovley post...;)...thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteWe all have to be so careful in this technology-driven world we live in, don't we?
ReplyDeleteMy hubby recently told me he was going to start a blogging widowers club. LOL In reality, he is just not used to me having something other than family taking up my time.
Personally, I've been quite excited to have something that is just "mine".
I suppose I will still need to find the balance though. And it sounds as though your hubby needs to do the same. ;)
By the way, thanks for the lovely comments you've left for me.
Blessings,
Liz @ the Brambleberry Cottage
Hello Debi....what a cute reminder. My hubby with his engineering work has a blackberry but he very wisely puts it on the buffet in the dining room, away from the rest of the house while at home so that when I saw your sign saying blackberry I goofily thought....fruit before wife...I know, duh. but really what comes before me sometimes is the land (our ranch) and the cows upon it. Just the other day (Sunday) when he was headed out to feed them (usually takes 3 hours or so) I was baking and was gonna miss his company so I muttered something to myself. "Say what?" he asked...I told him, I said "Those darn heifers."
ReplyDeleteI understand totally. I swear this is why I love Paris SO MUCH... because he does not bring his Blackberry, phone, or anything that reminds him of work. He can't even hook to his company website from there. I know we are on vacation, but anywhere else we go here in the states, that Blackberry is there... even on the beach! I hate it, but hey, it does pay the bills!
ReplyDeleteLiz,
ReplyDeleteOh dear, if my husband hears about a blogging widowers club that your husband is starting, he will be a charter member! Guess it all balances out when you look at it that way!
Debi
I HEAR YA DEBI! I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to being addicted to the BBerry ;) Miss ya'll!
ReplyDeleteApparently it's encrypted in the Kirksey DNA code. I've actually considered sending Ryan a text before when we've been out and his eyes are glued to his phone: "Wow, Ryan, your wife is GOOD-looking!!"

Hi Debi,
ReplyDeleteThat sign is hysterical. Hubby does not have a Blackberry but keeps threatening to get one.
I guess I'm lucky at this point.
hugs,

HILarIouS!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm afraid my husband would buy that for me.
I'm one of the lucky ones whose husband has no desire to have anything to do with a computer or his phone when he comes home since he uses those all day at work. He would be tempted to buy the sign for me though it would say, "I must remember to put my husband before my Apple products." He calls me his "iWife" and I think your husband calls me your "iFriend", doesn't he?
ReplyDeleteI think my husband would probably get that sign for me. I need to disconnect more than I do. I am new to your blog, Debi, and I absolutely love it. I lived in London for a couple of years, and I miss that beautiful city. Thanks for rekindling those great memories with your posts and pictures. I gave you an award over at my blog. Have a great weekend.
